Feb. 24 Ponder This

Ponder This seeks to challenge our perspectives through unexpected truths about the world around us. And I wanted our first Ponder This to remind us that Black history month isn’t a celebration of Black people’s plights and victories centuries ago, but a month of reverence for the revolutions that are happening right now.

You can swipe through to read my relatively lengthy reflections and the reasons Ruby Bridges’ age surprised me. But if nothing else, I hope you think about the people you know who were alive to see Bridges’ first day walking to William Frantz Elementary School.

Talk to those people. Ask them what life was like then compared to now. Their answers might amaze you, or bewilder you, or even anger you. But they’re sure to change your perspective of the past, and maybe even affect how you move through the future.
